Life & Art
Before having been selected for art studies in la Cambre and at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, Ana Maria Asan studied literature, linguistics and pedagogy at the University of Bucharest, in her birth town. She holds a Master degree in both fields.
At a very young age, before having learned to read or write, an old lady, living with her many cats on the right side of the Dambovita River, gave her the first lessons of piano. At the age of six, she became a student of the George Enescu Music High School and later, a member of the Romanian Radio Children’s Choir participating in concerts and recordings with professional musicians, singing Bach, Beethoven, Haendel, Schubert, Palestrina while outside, for many Romanians (and even for a child!), everything was grey and propaganda.
Ana Maria’s parents and family having had intuition of her artistic soul encouraged her to draw, to paint, to experiment with textile, to play and to listen to music. Her father having been trained as a cello player, took care of giving her a solid education and incited her to look always for the beauty in the world and in people’s heart. He remained through time the vibrating connection with the beautiful Romania and the spiritual Romanian people before the plague of communism. Her mother brought constantly her useful contribution in many ways, but especially by keeping her connected to the lively miracle of nature.
Thanks to them and to several generous people who gave her a part of their time, knowledge, and friendship, Ana Maria Asan wonderfully creates art today.
